Most companies in the manufacturing field tend to give products a numerical SKU or other similarly simplistic alphanumeric code to reperesent a particular product in their inventories or catalogs. This practice can make it difficult to remember specific part names/numbers and leads to lots of memorization and potential ordering errors on the part of supply chain managers, product development engineers, and anyone else who has to work with these poorly named products. In order to make it easier for our customers to find and procure exactly what they need, Pneuline Supply has decided to go a step further in making our product names easier to understand. In addition to the 9-digit SKU assigned to each product, we have also created a unique product name that is formatted in such a way as to be easily understood, compact, and highly descriptive.
The names of our products are intended to give customers an intuitive way to quickly understand at a glance what the basic characteristics of a particular product will be without having to memorize significant portions of a catalog. The Pneuline product naming system has 3 basic parts:
the product series,
the product size,
and the product attributes. Each part of the name is seperated by a dash ('-') and concatenated onto the previous part to form the complete product name. For the example above, the MPV-4BH-KV would refer to an inline diaphragm check valve (MPV), featuring 1/4" high-flow barbed tubing connectors (4BH), with a Kynar 720 housing (K) and a 0.030" Viton diaphragm (V) thus MPV-4BH-KV. The full range of possible options for each component of a product name is shown in the table below.
